The Future of TV

There's been a lot of talk in the current recession about people cutting out TV from their monthly budget, and going with an internet/netflix only approach to watching on the big screen. Maybe the people running tv companies should have watched this clips (from Bijan, via Fred)

Another New Track in Colorado?

A few years ago, we were down to one or two, and very soon, we might have at least 4 or 5! I'm not complaining (although my bank balance might).

Mr Batty Speaks (but only for 5 minutes)

Where 2.0 was this week, and Pete had the chance to do a 5 minute Ignite presentation on Whereyougonnabe (20 slides, auto-forwarded every 15 seconds). If you follow him on Twitter, or spoke to him in the last few weeks, you'll realize that the short format is harder than being allowed to speak for a longer time period. It looks like all the hard work paid off though - his talk is at the 35 minute mark below.

Courtesy of my brother comes this little two part gem. Definitely got me smiling today. The guys in the second video are some of the lads my brother plays poker with.

Foot Pump Power

Orange have released a camping friendly phone charger as part of their sponsorship of Glastonbury. Given the rain that normally accompanies the event, and the general lack of sunshine to power solar charges over there, this could be a life saver for the weekend long festival. In fact, it might just be a good idea in general - lots of exercise if you want to gossip away on your phone for hours on end....

Sandia Mexican Restaurant

Sandia Mexican Restaurant, originally uploaded by Aaron in Denver.

So I haven't ever done any restaurant reviews on this site (that I can remember anyway, apart from probably pimping Maxwells a lot before it closed), but we've been to Sandia a few times now, and it's been excellent.

It's part of the new build out at Park Meadows Mall - they've basically created a new outdoor dining/shopping/hangout place where the Lord and Taylor building used to be. There's a few different restaurants there, but this is the only we've tried so far.

Food wise, they have tacos and fajitas and burritos etc, and they do the make your guacamole at your table thing, which means the guac and chips are highly recommended. Drinks wise, they've got millions of different tequila's, along with the usual drinks, so sure it could easily be a place for a blinder. We've only done lunch there, so I haven't tried the Marg's yet, which thinking back is kinda strange. I guess one reason why that's the case is they have some pretty exciting lemonade action going on. It's kinda fizzy with a little sour taste in there as well, but tastes great in my opinion.

Anyway, if you're at Park Meadows and fancy a decent lunch or dinner, try this place out.

Always scoring.....

Well, not really any more, but another exiled Geordie sent me the link to this little video below, just in case anyone's forgotten the playing career of the man attempting to do the impossible and keep Newcastle up this season.

After Monday's win, everything's back in our own hands - two games of the season left - two wins would be nice, but to be honest, just staying up is the only target now, so whatever it takes. I think there's a little bit of belief back in the team now that they've won a game, so here's hoping tomorrow is another victory. Still wishing I was there to watch it, but will have to make do with the texts, calls and photos from my brother as usual to keep me in touch with the atmosphere.

Haway the lads.....

BMW Continues Ugly Streak

Back in the day, BMW used to make some pretty cars. These days, they all seem to just be big slabs of porky metal. This is the rumored 5 Series GT (via 5Post), and it's not helping my view that my next car may not be of the BMW variety....

In response

To Mr Batty's valid comment to the earlier post about the jet pack, and all of the demo videos are just of guys hovering around a little, rather than going anywhere, the one below popped into my RSS reader today. Not only does it show someone actually travelling using one of these things, it actually races a brand new Focus RS - not the slowest car in the world. Now, the jet pack itself is different to the one below, and this one apparenty is a "race" version, that only carries about 30 seconds of fuel, but it still looks kinda cool to me....

Huge Sigh of Relief

Wish I had been there, but not sure I could have taken the pressure. Newcastle's future status in the Premier League is back in their own hands, so although we're not out of the woods yet, tonight's win over Boro was a huge step in the right direction. I am officially starting to breath again (until Saturday I guess). Haway the lads - you can do it!

Update - pic from my brother from inside the ground (while he's using my season ticket I might add...)

Rearview, originally uploaded by Aaron in Denver.

Went for a drive today as I need to hit 200 miles before next weekend for my car service, and the 2 mile commute to work isn't going to get me there. I just headed South West from the house, and headed into the foothills. One thing that I never quite realized was how much damage is still up there from the forest fires - these were a few years ago now, and there's still mile upon mile of scarred wasteland, with not much green anywhere. It's pretty easy to see where the fire was stopped.

Eight Weeks and Counting

So, never thought I'd get here, but I did, somehow. 8 weeks yesterday since my last cigarette and I'm still alive (and haven't killed anyone either). All the places where I thought I might slip up (travelling for work, Vegas, home alone, the pub) have been done, and the little demons in my head that continually whisper "smoke, smoke, smoke" have quietened down a little bit.

Chantix definitely helped, but I got off that last weekend (a month early apparently) - if you're thinking of quitting, I'd definitely try it - made it a lot more possible for me (not saying it made it easy). It did also make me feel like puking pretty much every day though, along with providing me some of the more spectacular dreams I've had ever, hence the getting off it early. But, worth it.

Last time I quit (ages and ages ago), I managed to put on 20 lbs which never quite went away, so I've been determined not to have that happen this time. This has resulted in me hitting the gym about 5 times a week or so (3 or 4 with a trainer) - I think the workouts have managed to help with the sanity side of things as well. So, despite eating more than I maybe ever have in my life (Chipolte cravings start around 9am these days, and the fish tacos at Baja Fresh are a new favorite), I've stayed pretty much at the same weight. Next step is to try and cut down on the eating like a nose tackle so I can get back to my fighting weight - one goal is to try and get skinny enough that I can beat my brothers racing karts when I next go back home.

Shoe Bath (Tub)

Somehow I see the wife wanting another bathroom makeover when she sees these.....

Get Your Jetpack Today

Once again folks, the future is here and I didn't even realize it. I've always fancied a jetpack (haven't we all?), and now, for the small sum of $100k, you can have your own. It'll do 60mph for half an hour, so should get you to Safeway and back, although holding onto the loaf of bread on the way home might be a little difficult. Maybe they have a slot where you can put the loaf in, so you have ready made toast when you get home? Now that would be really cool.

Check out the video below, and if you want one, the site is here. (and slightly off=topic, but couldn't they have found a better name for this thing? The Martin Jetpack? I mean, it could be called Dave, or Bob, or Steve or Rich or something. And it's a Jetpack, not your neighbor! How about Super Future Flyer? Or Jetpack Jockey? Or something.......)

Summer is nearly here

So what better time of year to bring out that old Solar Necklace you have sitting in your wardrobe, and keep your iPhone charged up for a whole day?

I'm wondering just how sharp the corner of those panels are, and whether or not you get the free sunscreen you're obviously going to need to avoid skin cancer after a couple of years of sunning yourself for a few extra minutes of battery life.
