Colorado Tornado
It seems the tornadoes are gradually getting closer and closer to the city over the last couple of years (although people swear that there was one that hit downtown in the mid 90's before I got here). This was from Sunday night, the photo taken by Chip from his deck. He does live way out east, but technically it's considered Parker still, and to me, that's way too close for comfort. Somehow there were 4 of these things that touched down on Sunday evening, and they all managed to miss buildings and people.

Wow.
And yikes.
Before I had even landed in Denver though I saw a tornado. I think I may have seen two or three. Off to the right hand side of the plane as it approached DIA it looked like Hell had let loose - it was dark, almost black. To the left was a lovely sunset. Set against the black, I saw two vertical columns in the distance. They weren't as pronounced as Chip's one, but looked pretty similar, although they struck me as being slightly reddish against the black backdrop.
When we landed they told us not to leave the airport as there had been a number of tornado touch-downs in the area in the previous half hour.
The all-clear came a few minutes later.
That put a 5 year fear of God into me about tornados in Denver. They do come. I was amazed that I never saw any more.
